New Jersey's public transportation system says it has restored rail service into New York City to pre-Superstorm Sandy levels. NJ Transit Executive Director James Weinstein says full restoration marks another milestone because most customers commute to and from Manhattan. NJ Transit says rail operations systemwide will reach 94 percent of pre-Sandy service levels on Monday, with 658 of the 700 weekday trains scheduled prior to the storm operational. The transit agency suffered an estimated $400 million in damage to its rail cars, locomotives and infrastructure in the superstorm. The late October storm killed people in 10 states but hit New York and New Jersey the hardest, flooding neighborhoods and destroying homes. It's New Jersey's worst natural disaster.
